Alitha Quast, age 104 of Menno passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Theresa Jacobson officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno with the family present. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.


Pallbearers will be William Headley, Bruce Anderson, Gerald Handel, Richard Herrboldt, DeWayne Graber, and Glenn Redman.


Alitha Quast was born October 5, 1911 on a farm south east of Menno to Emmanuel and Emma (nee Zeeb) Herrboldt. She attended country school through 8th grade. She was baptized as an infant in the Ebenezer Reformed Church and confirmed in the Salem Reformed Church. Alitha married Walter Quast on June 17, 1934 and moved to the town of Menno. In the 1930's, Walt and Alitha moved to California for job opportunities, where Alitha worked on a potato farm grading potatoes. They moved back to Menno, where Alitha remained while her husband was in the Army during WWII.


She was a meticulous homemaker who loved cooking, crocheting afghans, having coffee parties with friends, and spending time with family.


Alitha was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church and also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary.


Alitha is survived by a sister, Luella Heer of Menno, SD and many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, her parents, sisters, Viola Handel and Violet Diede and brothers, Ruben, Filmore and Edmund (Dick) Herrboldt.
