Arlene Walz

Arlene Walz, 90, of Freeman, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025 at the Oakview Terrace Nursing Home in Freeman. Arlene’s funeral service will be 10:30 am, Thursday, September 25 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Menno with Rev. Brian Mosemann officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Menno Cemetery. Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel of Menno is assisting the family with arrangements. Arlene Neuharth was born on Dec 1, 1934 in Menno to Philip and Katherina Neuharth. She attended country school until the 8th grade. She was married on Oct 21, 1956 to Walter F Walz. Arlene and Walter farmed together for all of their lives. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

She was a great cook and baker. She enjoyed making Fleischkuekle for everyone's birthday. Every year, she always had a big garden and enjoyed canning jars of dill pickles, beans, peaches and pears. She baked bread every week and always had a container of chocolate chip cookies available to eat.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two children Kevin Walz of Freeman, SD and Vicky (Jim) Buitenbos of Platte SD; two grandchildren Christopher (Bethany) Buitenbos of Sioux Falls, SD, and Michael (Abby) Buitenbos of Platte, SD; 3 great grandchildren Laney, Lincoln, and Jordy; sister-in-law Betty Neuharth of Menno, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Walter Dec 26, 1993, brothers: Leon, Ray, Elmer, Marvin, and Philip, sisters: Bea, Alma, Ida, Verlinda, Erna, Viona, Elda, and Norma.
