Barbara Ellen Hallam

Barbara E. Hallam, February 2, 1949 – May 9, 2016. Barbara Ellen Hallam, 67, born Barbara Ellen Sparby originally from Yankton, SD, passed away peacefully in the company of her family on Monday evening, May 9, 2016, in Lenexa, Kansas. She is survived by son Bill Jungclaus and daughter-in-law Carrie Jungclaus of Kansas City, KS; daughter Amy (Jungclaus) Meier and son-in-law Cully Meier of Columbia, MO; brother Robert Sparby of Yankton, SD, brother-in-law Jerry DeLozier of Yankton, SD; nieces Denise (Troy) Telthoester and DaNell (Joe) Tucker of Savage, MN; nephew Darrik (Theresa) DeLozier of Yankton, SD; in addition to 7 great nieces and nephews.

Barb was born in Sioux Falls, SD and raised in Yankton, SD. She attended Yankton and Vermillion high schools. At the age of 17 she married Gregory Jungclaus, and shortly after became a mother April 2, 1967, when her son, Bill was born. Eleven years later, Amy (Jungclaus) Meier was born on March 14, 1978. Barb was dedicated to her family and in addition to being a housewife & mother, she worked various jobs, as her husband, Greg, completed college as a PhD chemist.

Barb enjoyed traveling and lived in several different states throughout her life. She resided in Tempe, AZ; Boston, MA; Detroit, MI; Columbus, OH; and Olathe, KS. While in her 40’s Barb married her second husband Ronald Hallam. During their marriage they resided in Columbia, TN and Denver, CO, and in their free time enjoyed sight-seeing as they traveled across the country on a motorcycle. However, Barb’s travels were cut short after suffering a debilitating stroke at the young age of 49. Though her physical condition caused new limitations, Barb did not give up on life. She made the most of her situation and was a joy and blessing to everyone’s life she touched. Barb relocated from Colorado to a nursing home in Lenexa, KS, to live near her children. She was greatly loved and respected by her friends and the caring staff of Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, where she resided for the last years of her life.

Greeting Barb in heaven is her mother Nancy (Brewer) Sparby, father Charles Miller, and beloved sister Beverly (Sparby) DeLozier.

Visitation will be at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD on Saturday, May 21st, from 2:00-3:00 pm, with memorial service at 3:00 pm, with Rev. Steve Weispfennig officiating.
