Berdelia ‘Berdie’ Mehlhaf

Berdelia ‘Berdie’ Mehlhaf age 91 of Yankton and formerly of Rapid City and Menno died of a stroke Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Avera Sr. James Care Center.  There will be no services.  Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home is assisting the family with the cremation.  Online condolences may be sent at opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com.

Berdelia ‘Berdie” Huldina Nusz was born on September 19, 1932 to William and Huldina (Schmidt) Nusz on the family farm southeast of Menno SD.  She attended Klaudt Country School, Menno High School and graduated in 1950.  On August 26, 1951 she married Jack Mehlhaf.

Berdie was a social person with spunk who took great pleasure in visiting with everyone and anyone.  She enjoyed reading the newspaper, doing crossword puzzles, watching the Minnesota Twins and walking.

Berdie is survived by her children Penny (Mark) Scholl, Yankton, Tim, Akaska SD, Jill, Peoria AZ, and Matt (Laura) Rapid City.  She is also survived by three grandchildren Marcus, AZ, Troy (Alayna), ND, Cody, MN, step-granddaughter Shaundra, NV, great granddaughter Dakotah Lou, ND, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brother Alton and sister-in-law Frieda. Honor her by toasting to her long life with either a beer or vodka.
