Carl Dwight Thomas, age 66 of Santee, NE passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the Oyate Oyanke Community Center, Santee, NE with Roger Trudell, Rev. Marrs, and Sam Kitto officiating. Burial will be in the Congregational Cemetery, Santee, NE. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Monday, June 10, 2024 and continue until service time on Thursday. There will be a Prayer service each evening at 7:00 PM at the Community Center. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD is assisting with the service details. Carl was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Rudolph Thomas and Edith LaPointe (Bickerstaff). He grew up in Santee, NE. He attended school in Niobrara, NE. He met Pansy Johnson, who he married on March 3, 1989 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They have two children together, Corrina Johnson and Anthony Johnson. Carl had many jobs throughout his life but worked as a utility’s worker for the Santee Sioux Nation the longest.
Carl Thomas enjoyed watching Nebraska Cornhuskers play football on tv, watching Heartland, listening to Motown, going for rides in the car.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Pansy Thomas of Santee; children Corrina Johnson of and Anthony Johnson of Santee; four grandchildren Thomas Johnson of Santee, Jonathan RedOwl of Lincoln NE, Caitlin Johnson of Winnebago NE, and Lydia Cruz of Nashville TN; seven great-grandchildren; siblings Rodney (Freddy) Thomas Sr., Harlan Thomas and Wyatt Thomas all of Santee NE.
Carl was proceeded in death by his parents Rudolph (Rudy) Thomas and Edith Bickerstaff, Siblings Rudolph (Rudy) Thomas, Merle Gene Thomas, Winona (Kandi, KT) Thomas, and Gloria Fuller.
