Carol Ann Aisenbrey

Carol Ann Aisenbrey, age 89, of Menno, South Dakota passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Zion Reformed Church in Menno with Reverend Travis Grassmid officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home of Menno.

Carol Ann Thomas was born to David and Gertie (Frinkman) Thomas on May 31, 1937 on the family farm near Centerville. At a young age, her family moved to Centerville. Carol was a member of First Baptist Church in Centerville. Carol attended 12 years of school at the Centerville Public School, graduating in 1956. After graduation, Carol worked as a clerk and dental assistant in Yankton for 4 years. During that time, Carol met Donley Aisenbrey through a mutual friend (Donley’s cousin) and they were married on September 11, 1960 at First Baptist Church in Centerville.

Carol and Donley farmed and lived on the family farm near Olivet until 1985 when they moved to Menno, but Donley continued to farm. After marriage, she became a lifelong member of Zion Reformed Church, teaching Sunday School for a time and also enjoyed the women’s fellowship. For many years she especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s music and sporting activities with Donley. She had great compassion for others and shared that with gifts, cards, kind words and most of all, prayers. In May of 2025, Carol moved to the Menno-Olivet Care Center where she continued to enjoy staying in touch with others through visits, phone calls and pictures.

Carol is lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, 11 months and 360 days, Donley of Menno; her daughter, Linda (Walter) Schoenfish of Parkston, SD; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Murtha of Parkston and David (Madison) Schoenfish of Falls Church, VA. Also, three great-grandchildren: Elijah, Josiah, and Aliyah Murtha; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Inez Wipf and Carl and Barbara Aisenbrey; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Lois Hansen, Esther Lounsbery and Ladelle Petersen; and several nephews and in-laws.
