LARSON, CHARLES JR.
Charles Larson, Jr., formerly of Yankton, SD, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016, in Salina, KS. He was 93.
Charles was born October 7, 1922, to Charles W. and Madeline Ames Larson in Pipestone, MN; he was the youngest of four children. In 1929 the family moved to Yankton, SD, where Charles attended school and graduated from Yankton High School in 1940.
During World War II he served as a Naval Aviator, having enlisted in 1942. Charles returned to Yankton and in 1946 formed the Larson Brothers Co. along with his brother, Max, continuing the heating and air conditioning business which their father had started in 1929.
On April 3, 1948, Charles married Carol Payne in Fort Dodge, IA. They had two children, Marty and Mark, and resided in Yankton for the 59 years of their married life.
Survivors include a daughter, Marty McCain and husband Hal of Salina, KS; two granddaughters, Colleen McCain Nelson and husband Eric of Washington, DC and Carrie Morton and husband Bill of Waukee, IA. He is also survived by four nieces and four nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents; a son, Mark Charles Larson; a sister, Phyllis McKee; and two brothers, Maynard Larson and Max Larson.
Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton is in charge of arrangements. A private family inurnment at the Yankton Cemetery will be held at a later date.
