Clarence William Konken was born on December 17, 1928 to John & Selma (Wittler) Konken at home on the family farm. He grew up north of Coleridge. He attended country school through the 8th grade. He married Betty Burrus, August 10th 1950. To this union 4 children were born. They farmed northwest of Hartington. He also enjoyed auctioneering and worked with his brother Wendell, forming Konken Auction Company. He owned and operated the Coleridge Locker. He enjoyed going to livestock auctions and farm sales. In 2003 they moved to Yankton SD. In 2012 he received The Ak-sar-ben Century Farm Award for a farm remaining in the family for 111 years. This was one of the proud moments in his life.
He is survived by his children: Gloria (Mark) Hoesing, O’Neill, NE, Janice (Steve) Mortensen, Wake Forest, NC, Kelly (Deb) Konken, Hartington, NE and Colleen (Steve) Rowe, LeMars, IA. 9 grandchildren Brian (Rozlyn) Hoesing, Carrie (Mike) Whiting, Dr. Gina (Adam) Torpin, Leslie (Jeremy) Hinkle, Aaron (Jennifer) Mortensen, Teri Mortensen (fiancé Christiano Torres), Kelsey (Dane) Dailey, Christopher (Sarah) Jordan, Kylie Jordan and 10 great grandchildren with another due in October. He is also survived by his brother Vernon, Gerald and sister Gladys Pedersen all of Hartington NE. Many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by wife Betty, son-in-law Mark, Brothers Marvin, Norman, Elmer, Wendell, and Sister Lorna Vedder.
