Danny Paul Barta Sr., 63, of Gayville, SD passed away Saturday, December 7th, 2013 at his home in his sleep. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Menominee, NE, followed by a reception at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitations will be from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7 PM rosary followed by a video tribute and a Scripture service at 7:30 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are: Steve Achen, Tommy Huether, Jess Barta, Mark Leader, Brent Barta and Ryan Barta. Honorary Pallbearers are Danny's grandchildren and his former Softball Teammates.
He was born on October 8, 1950 in Viborg, SD, to Robert "Buzzy" and Vivian (DeCora) Barta. He married Carlene Kuchta on November 30, 1974 in Menominee, NE. Danny attended Gayville Public School and graduated in 1969. He went on to work in the hay business for many years, then worked for Concrete Materials until 2011. Danny was a very talented man with many interests and hobbies, including softball, bowling, hunting and fishing with his friends, children, grandchildren and extended family. Camping or spending time at the river with his entire family was another of his favorites. His spontaneity and optimism were some of the most loveable qualities about him, but most of all he was proud and protective of his children and grandchildren.
Danny is survived by his wife, Carlene Barta of Gayville, SD; his children: Stacy Barta (Steve Achen), Mindy (Tommy) Huether, both of Gayville, SD, Danny Paul Barta Jr. (Jess) of Wausa, NE, and Hillary Barta (Mark Leader) of Crofton, NE; grandchildren: Alec Barta, Maia Achen, Jax Achen, Kelia Barta, Chase Huether, Brady Huether, Olivia Barta, Benjamin Barta, Leila Barta and Trystin Leader; father, Robert "Buzzy" Barta; siblings: Robert Jr. (Pam) Barta, Linda Ryken, Mike (Judy)Barta, Donny (Myrna) Barta, and Debbie Barta.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian (DeCora) Barta.

Danny was a generous man with a gentle smile for anybody. The positive impact he had on others will be a living legacy.
