Delores Katherine Novak of Glendale, AZ, formally of Yankton passed away on August 11, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, August 18, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, with a rosary at 7:00 PM and a scripture service at 7:30 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Richie Novak, Jason Novak, Chris J. Novak, Justin Novak, Christopher M. Novak, Brian DeNomme, Joey Novak, and Adam Novak.
Delores was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD on April 5, 1924 to Michael and Anna (Wuebben) Goeden. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School in Menominee, Nebraska. She was baptized, received her First Communion and was confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee. Delores married Joseph O. Novak on May 5, 1948. Together they raised eight children; six boys and two girls.
Delores worked for over 30 years at Gurney Seed & Nursery Company in Yankton. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, family gatherings, watching her children and grandchildren participate in sporting activities, watching her soap operas and rooting for the Minnesota Twins.
Delores is survived by one sister, Odelia Ellis; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, her eight children: Richard Novak of Gilbert, AZ, Dennis (Sue) Novak of Sioux City, IA, Joseph (Mavis) Novak of Harrisburg, SD, Eugene (Patricia) Novak of Gilbert, AZ, Daniel Novak of Yankton, SD, Mary (Tim) DeNomme of Glendale, AZ, Phyllis (Delbert) Conn of Sioux Falls, SD, Gerald Novak of Yankton, SD; 24 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Anna Goeden, husband, Joseph, three brothers, Lawrence, Joseph, and Ignatius Goeden, sister, Mildred Ryan, and two grandsons, Seth and Joshua Novak.
