Deloris L. Schaeffer

Deloris Schaeffer, age 78 of Menno, SD passed away Sunday, March 05, 2017 at Freeman Regional Health Services, Freeman, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Peace Christian Reformed Church, Menno, SD with Rev. Steve Moerman officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery, Menno, SD. Visitations will be 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Peace Christian Reformed Church, Menno, SD and then one hour prior to the service. Deloris Lorraine (Weltz) Schaeffer was born on December 1 1938 at Scotland, South Dakota to Edmund and Anna (Kost) Weltz. She was baptized by Rev. Green, and confirmed by Rev. Rieger in May 1952. She attended grade school at Suess School District 13 in Bon Homme Country. She graduated from Scotland High School in 1957. On October 27, 1957, Deloris married the love of her life, Wilfred Schaeffer at the United Church of Christ in Scotland SD. She worked at the telephone office in Scotland while Wilfred served in the US Army. She enjoyed farming with Wilfred and raising six kids. Deloris milked cows, gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, and enjoyed cooking for the family. After her family was raised, she worked at Menno Olivet Care Center, Good Samaritan Society Scotland for 10 years, but the most precious and loved time was spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She became a resident of the Menno Olivet Care Center February 2016. Deloris is survived by six children: Galen (Connie) Schaeffer, Freeman, SD; Gerald (Donna) Schaeffer, Menno SD; Roxanne (Bruce) Van Buskirk, Lee’s Summit, MO; Lisa (Chris) Linneman, Omaha, NE; Wesley (Danielle) Schaeffer, Utica SD; Jared (April) Schaeffer, Sheldon, IA; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Travis (Jessica) Schaeffer, Aden, Raiann, and Nyla; Trevor Schaeffer; Chad (Rachel) Schaeffer, Olia, Eliana, and Sophia; Amanda (Kyle) Hodnefield, Owen, and baby; Craig Schaeffer; Jennifer Van Buskirk; Brett Van Buskirk and Alex Van Buskirk, Matthew (Christine) Broghammer, Ellie; Gabriel Linneman; Megan (Nathan) Fischer and Malachi; Courtney (Kody) Kyriss; and Andrew Schaeffer; Devan Schaeffer and Madeline Schaeffer. She is survived by one brother, Leighton (Linda) Weltz, Eldora IA. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wilfred (April 10, 2009) and grandsons, Derek Schaeffer and Noah Hodnefield.
