Dorcas Mason

Dorcas Mae Mason, age 91, of Yankton, SD, departed this earth for her heavenly home on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 11:00 am at Redeeming Grace Bible Church in Yankton with Pastor Joe Mason and Pastor Raymond Solberg officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Redeeming Grace Yankton YouTube channel. Private burial will be at the Yankton Cemetery at a later time. 

Dorcas was born January 16, 1934 in Iowa to Elmer and Loretta Carrithers. They later moved to Ohio, Iowa, Indiana and back to Ohio, also living in Panama for a short time while her father prepared for the Pacific Theater in World War II. 

She attended Bible College in Wheaton, Illinois. While at Wheaton College she met Bob Mason and they were married September 8, 1956. She graduated from Wheaton College with a teaching degree. 

Dorcas and Bob lived in Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin where Bob pastored churches during the years they were raising their four sons. They later lived in Des Moines, Iowa where Dorcas cared for her parents until their deaths. In 2006 they moved to Yankton, SD to live near three of their boys. They were members of Kingsway Christian Church/Redeeming Grace Bible Church for many years. 

Dorcas lived a life of loving service to her Lord, her beloved family and those who crossed her path. She had a life long passion for reading. Dorcas has lived the last four years at Sister James Care Center together with her husband Bob, who passed away in February of 2025. 

Dorcas is survived by her four sons: Dan (Karen) Mason of Yankton, Joe (Cindy) Mason of Yankton, Tim (Roxanne) Mason of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and James Mason of Yankton; two granddaughters: Sarah (Shawn) Morgan of San Diego, CA and Jessica Tjeerdsma of Yankton; eight great grandchildren: Morgan, Shelby, Lexus, Isaac, Zane, Hanadi, Asia and Mia; and one great great grandson, Brian. 

Dorcas was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Bob Mason; parents Elmer and Loretta Carrithers; and one sister, Ruthie.
