Doris Virginia Hauger Sees, 100, of Irene, peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025. She was born on October 16, 1924, in Kimball, South Dakota, to Henry and Francis Hauger. At the age of two, her family moved to Irene, settling just south of the Mayfield Store. Doris attended Sunrise School and later graduated from Yankton High School. She continued her education at Mount Marty College, where she earned a teaching diploma and went on to teach for 3 ½ years. On October 4, 1944, she married the love of her life, Francis Sees, at St. Columba Catholic Church.
Together, Doris and Francis built a life full of love, raising three children and teaching them the values of family and hard work. As a dedicated farm wife, Doris became known for her homemade bread and raisin filled cookies, her thriving garden, and her sharp mind during card games. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel at home, offering wisdom, kindness, and a listening ear to all who entered her life.
Doris was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, friend, and neighbor. Her love and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. She is survived by her three children, Don (Kelly) of Bedford, TX, Theresa (Rick) Hlavac of Irene, and Bob of Irene; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a growing number of great-great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis; her grandson, Francis John; her great-grandson, Collin; her brothers, Linus, Robert, Leo, and Joe; and her sisters, Katherine and Mary Francis.
We kindly request that any donations be made in the form of monetary contributions, which will be directed by the family to the Mayfield Cemetery Association and McCrossan Boys Ranch in Sioux Falls.
