Dorothy Ann Duffek

Dorothy Ann Duffek age 82, of Tabor, passed away Sunday October 5, 2025 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. A private family service will be held at a later date. Dorothy was born to Lawrence and Grace (Andersen) Heirigs on October 3, 1943, in Yankton, SD. She grew up in the Mayfield area with her two brothers, James and Roger. She graduated from Mount Marty High School (Yankton) in 1961 and then attended Cosmetology School in Sioux Falls, SD. She married Dennis Duffek on July 6, 1963, at St. Columba Catholic Church in Mayfield, SD.

Dorothy was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church along with the Altar and Rosary Society in Tabor.

Dorothy enjoyed all sports and followed her grandchildren's school and sports activities in person or on her iPad. There was always a sporting event on her television, whether it was football, baseball, volleyball, or basketball; she was watching and knew all the players. She was a diehard Green Bay Packer and New York Yankee fan; she relished her many trips to Lambeau Field and to Yankee Stadium with family.

She is survived by her three children: Mike (Stephanie) Duffek of Tabor, SD, Mark (Susan) Duffek of Sioux Falls, SD, and Mary Ann (Colby) LaCompte of Winner, SD. Grandchildren: Emily Duffek, Sioux Falls, SD; Jenna Duffek of Sioux Falls, SD, Brett Duffek of New York City, Matthew Duffek of Lincoln, NE, Abby Duffek of Minneapolis, MN; Hanna Meyer (Trace) of Winner, SD, Maggie LaCompte of Winner, SD, and Landon LaCompte of Winner, SD. Great-grandchildren Cannon and Miley Meyer of Winner, SD, and brother Roger Heirigs of Vermillion, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, of 50 years in 2014, her parents, Lawrence and Grace Heirigs, brother James Heirigs, and in-laws George and Irene Duffek.
