Edmund F. Hamann, age 65, of Yankton passed away unexpectedly at his home, Sunday, June 09, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Dell Rapids, SD at approximately 2:30 PM Thursday afternoon. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a Scripture service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ed was born October 16, 1947 in Clarion, IA to Ed and Joan (Brenner) Hamann. He grew up in Mapleton and Cherokee, IA. For many years Ed and Freda Rizzi shared a home together and from this relationship two daughters were born, Mistie and Amy. He began his career in Denver, CO where he owned his own construction company. He later moved to Yankton, SD where he worked at the South Dakota Human Services Center in maintenance. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid fan of auto racing and looked forward to attending the Knoxville Nations with his family every year. He enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife and enjoyed helping others with projects around their homes. Ed loved his his pets and always had room in his heart for one more.
He is survived by his two daughters, Mistie (Matthew) Geraets of Dell Rapids, SD and Amy Hamann of Sioux Falls, SD; two grandchildren, Anthony and Clara of Dell Rapids, SD; two brothers, Jeff (Linda) Hamann of North Sioux City, SD and Alex (Joni) Hamann of Lead, SD; his "favorite sister" Chris (Ken) Wede of Madison, SD; and his"favorite sister", Rebecca "Becky" (Rory) Hansen of Ankeny, IA, and his mother, Joan (Brenner) Hamann of Yankton, SD.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Hamann.
