Eugene Johnson, age 65 of Yankton, SD passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from a battle with cancer. Eugene’s memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday September 6, 2025, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton with Rev. Darin Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial of Eugene’s cremated remains will follow the service at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Eugene Louis Johnson was born on October 15, 1959 in Williston, North Dakota to Ron and Faye (Price) Johnson. He was raised in Yankton, South Dakota.

Those who knew Gene will remember his kind heart, generous spirit and his enduring passion for riding motorcycles. He found joy and freedom on two wheels – a pursuit that brought him both peace and adventure. It became a large part of who he was.

He is survived by his father, Ron Johnson of Vermillion, SD; brother, Mike (Laurie) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Karen (John) Kruml of Union, KY; daughter, Amber Heitritter of Birchwood, WI; sons, Jesse Webb of Chardon, OH and Shawn Osborn of Norfolk, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife and loving friend, Rhonda Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye Johnson and his dearest friend, Gordon “Gordy” Sorensen.

His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, whom he loved deeply.
