Inez (Chance) Winckler age 90 of Alcester and formerly of Freeman and Menno passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Alcester Care and Rehab Center, Alcester, SD. Online condolences may be sent at: www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com.
Inez Emma Herrboldt was born April 10th, 1926 in Menno SD to parents Emil and Emma (Ulmer) Herrboldt. She graduated to heaven at the age of 90 years at the Alcester Care and Rehab Center.
Inez was baptized on May 24, 1926 at Ebenezer Reformed Church and was confirmed June 23, 1940 at Salem Reformed Church on May 8, 1947. She married Oliver Chance on May 8, 1947 and they resided in Howard SD. She retired from teaching after 26 years in the Howard area. The couple moved to Alcester SD at that time to co-own and operate the Clover Farm grocery store, retiring from that in 1992. After Oliver’s death she married Elmer Winckler on May 1, 1998. They resided in Menno, SD. Due to health reasons she entered the Alcester Care and Rehab Center in October, 2016.
She was a member of the Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester for 28 years where she served in many capacities working in the library, making banners for the church and singing in the choir.
Inez and Elmer moved to Menno, SD in 2000 where they were members of the Salem Reformed Church.
Inez loved to read, garden, spending with her family, especially her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren.
Among those who survive and gratefully share her life are her husband Elmer Freeman, SD, son Tim (Nola) Chance, daughter Sandra (Don) Drown of Alcester. Grandchildren Todd (Danyal) Chance Yankton SD, Shawn (Cindy) Drown St. Augustine, FL, Amanda (Collin) Wiggins Hawarden IA. Great grandchildren Thea & Abe Chance, Laird & Siriana Drown, Dylan & Blake Wiggins. Foster daughter Bernadine Wright.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Oliver, brothers Clarence, Albert and Walter, and foster son Rodney Renville.
