Janice M. Massey, age 87 of Yankton, SD passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House, Yankton, SD. Janice was born to Lawrence and Marella Haberer on June 21st 1938. She grew up on a farm near Crofton, NE. and went to grade school in Crofton and went high school in Yankton SD, where she graduated. She worked at Buhl’s dry cleaners for a while until she met Robert Massey at the Utica dance hall and in June of 1959 were married. She was a farm wife until they retired in 1992. She was the second oldest of 9 kids. Janice was kept very busy raising 10 kids of her own and also was busy tending 120 laying hens. Janice will always be remembered for her famous waffle cookies and homemade bread. She always made sure everyone had snacks and offered you to stay for a meal. Janice, after retiring to Yankton worked part-time at Gurney’s and later watched kids at JFK. She was loved by 23 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She survived by siblings Chuck (Pat) Haberer Tea SD., Tom (JoAnn) Haberer, Green Valley, Arizona. James (Deb) Massey, Olivet, Bill Massey, Menno, Larry Massey, Yankton, Dan (Debra) Massey, Yankton, Helen (Tom) Novak, Yankton, Frank (Stacy) Massey, Olivet, Ray (Audie) Massey, Menno, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Marcella (Bogner) Haberer, Richard, Donnie, Mike, Donna, Lucy and Kaye, also preceded in death by husband Robert, sons Joe and Steve and daughter Valerie (Les) Punt and one great grandchild Alexis Luttmann.
