Jeanette Anderson, age 88, died February 12, 2014, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, March 1, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. John Rutten officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM, Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a Scripture service at 7:30 PM.


Jeanette was born on a farm in Menominee, Nebraska, to Herman and Lavina (Hoebelheinrich) Bonertz on March 3, 1925. She graduated from Trinity High School in Hartington, Nebraska, and attended Southern Normal in Springfield. She taught country schools in Cedar County, Nebraska, and Union County, South Dakota, prior to her marriage.


On October 21, 1946, she married Medvin Anderson in St. Helena. They made their home in Yankton. After her marriage, she worked at Dale Electronics and M-Tron Industries. During retirement, she tutored English as a Second Language for the Literacy Council. Some of those she tutored became her lifelong friends.


She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Yankton Senior Center.


She is survived by a daughter, Jan (Larry) Long, of Sioux Falls, SD; a son, Rob Anderson, of Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren: Heather (Mark) Rasmussen of Anchorage, AK; Claire (Rick) Evans of Sioux Falls, SD; and Craig Long of Brookings, SD; two great grandchildren, Madison and Connor Evans; three sisters: Gerry (Ken) Pederson of Yankton, SD; Carol (Don) Lowe of Omaha, NE; and Louann Bonertz of Yankton, SD; one niece, and five nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Cathy Logue.
