STOCKING JOAN MARIE
Joan Marie Stocking, age 67 of Yankton, SD passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer, at Avera Sister James Care Center under hospice care. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, SD with Rev. Tom Anderson officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will take place at later date. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM, Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Onsite Crematory, Yankton, SD with memory sharing at 7:00 PM. Joan was born on June 7, 1958, in Estherville, Iowa, to Garrold (Gerry) and Mildred (Zdenek) Cameron. She grew up in Yankton and graduated from Yankton High School in 1976. On June 16, 1979, she married Gregg Stocking at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Robert (Bob) and Christopher.
Joan was a dedicated and hardworking woman, spending 47 years at Vishay until her retirement in 2025. She also enjoyed her time working at Casey’s, where she valued the friendships and connections she made along the way.
Family was the center of Joan’s life. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and her home was often filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of her well-loved baked goods. Known for her incredible luck, Joan enjoyed bingo, scratch tickets, and trips to the casino. She also had a creative side, spending countless hours cross-stitching, sewing, doing home repairs, and reading her favorite Stephen King novels.
A highlight of her recent years was a special trip to Las Vegas with her dear friend, Kevin Shelburg.
Joan is survived by her special friend, Kevin Shelburg; sons Robert Stocking (Michele) of Bismarck, North Dakota, and Christopher Stocking (Heather) of Grand Island, Nebraska; brothers Richard Cameron (Gail Boal) of San Ramon, California, Don (Diane) Cameron, and Scott (Maria) Cameron, all of Yankton; sister-in-law Pamela Cameron of Macon, Georgia; uncle Arlin Rushing of Texas; six grandchildren, Addison, Jade, Naomi, Alex, Christopher, and Adam; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garrold and Mildred Cameron; brothers Bill Cameron and Bob Cameron; and several aunts and uncles.
Joan will be remembered for her strength, her kindness, her sense of humor, and the love she shared so generously with her family and friends.
