John Thomas Lane, age 39, of Sioux Falls, SD and formerly of Yankton, SD passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 7, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Robert Wullweber officiating. In honor of John's memory, we welcome anyone to wear anything in camouflage or hunting orange attire. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD with a Scripture service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
John was born to Larry and Judy (Nielson) Lane at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD on May 22, 1976. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Church and attended church there until moving to Sioux Falls. John graduated from Yankton High School in 1994. He went to one year of college in Brookings and then transferred to Southeast Tech where he graduated in electronics. John got a job with KDLT television working on the board part time. After graduation, he went full time with KDLT and was transferred into the engineering department. At the time of his death, he was Chief Engineer for Red River Broadcasting. While in college, John met the love of his life, Tracy Pick. They were married on October 4th, 1997 in Fordyce, NE. They made their home in Sioux Falls, SD. John and Tracy both have a real love for their Weimaraner dogs. First came Felix and after his passing they adopted Molly. John loved being with all of his family and friends on the river, at the cabin, traveling, going on trips and new adventures, and going to concerts, especially outdoors. He was Mr. Fix-It around the house and came up with his own innovative ways of solving problems and making things work.
John is survived by his wife, Tracy; best friend, Molly; his parents, Larry and Judy; brother, Zachary (Vicki); nephew, Thomas; paternal grandmother, Velma Lane; in-laws, Donovan and Nancy Pick; sister-in-law, Tonya (Quenton) Mortensen and many wonderful aunts, uncles and cousins.
In heaven, John will be joined by his friend, Felix; his maternal grandparents, James and Irene Nielson and paternal grandfather, Thomas Lane.
