John "Jack" Wendel Shelburg, age 75, of Yankton, SD passed away Monday, February 09, 2015 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the 1st United Methodist Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Mission Hill Cemetery at approximately 3:15 PM, Thursday afternoon. Visitations will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD is assisting with service details.
John was born March 25, 1939 in Des Moines, IA to Earl and Lela (Doughtery) Shelburg. He graduated from Yankton High School in 1958. He lived in Des Moines, IA working with his brother, Lewis. During this time, he met his wife, Wilma and they were married on April 2, 1960. To this union, three sons were born. They moved to Yankton, SD in 1962 where John worked at Yankton College for twelve years. He also worked at the American State Bank for over twenty years before retiring. John enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. John was truly a nice guy and will be missed.
John is survived by his sons, Tim Shelburg and Kevin (Judy) Shelburg, both of Sioux Falls, SD and Adam (Betty) Shelburg of Derby, KS; six grandchildren; brother, Jim Shelburg of Houston, TX and sister, Marlene Shelburg of Yankton, SD.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, brothers, Louis, Charles, Jerry and Donny, one sister, Barbara and one grandchild, Darren Shelburg.
