Marie M. Koranda

Marie was born July 4, 1915 in Atkinson, NE to George A. and Nellie (Atkinson) Berry. She was raised in Wessington Springs, SD until she was seven years old. She lived in White Lake, SD for four years, then moved to Kimball, SD. Marie graduated from Kimball High School in 1935. She married Lester Sebesta on December 26, 1935 in Plankington, SD and raised two children. Lester past away in August of 1980. Marie married Kenneth J. Koranda on August 29, 1981; he passed away on December 2, 1992.

During the war, Marie taught in country school, The Gullickson School and the Bendon School. The moved to Minnesota and then to Mitchell, SD. Marie worked in the Ben Franklin School. They then moved to Casper, WY where they lived for seven years. Marie worked in the BiRite Drug Store. They moved to Pierre and Marie worked at Vilas Drug Store and then moved to Yankton where she worked at Yankton Rexall Drug for fifteen years.

Marie was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Moose Auxiliary and First United Methodist Church in Yankton, SD.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Connie (Chet) Schoenbeck of Oakland IA. Step daughter, Donna (Ed) Melichar of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren; Michael Schoenbeck, Jennie Rudy, K.D. Metheny, and Gale Rousey and two step grandchildren Pam and Kenny. Three great grandchildren, Shannon Busby, Jason Rudy, and Massena Rousey and two great, great grandchildren Riker Busby and Ayla Busby and many Nieces and Nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester Sebesta and husband, Kenneth J. Koranda; son, Terry Sebesta; step son, Don Koranda; brothers, Wesley and Ed Berry; sisters, Hannah Sebesta, Elva Lytle, Nellie Sluka, Mable Zingler, Leora Bocker, and Grace Meyers and sister-in-law, Ruby Sebesta of Poway, CA.
