Marlene Schramm

Marlene Schramm, age 85, of Yankton, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026 at the Sister James Care Center in Yankton. Memorial Mass will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 15 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton with Fr. Tom Anderson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton following the Mass. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home of Yankton is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marlene Ann Schramm, Daughter of James and Carrie (Klufa) Krcil, was born October 26, 1940, in Wagner, South Dakota, and died August 10, 2026, at Avera Majestic Bluffs in Yankton, South Dakota, at the age of 85.

Marlene attended country school in Dante, South Dakota, and the family later moved to Wagner, South Dakota, where she graduated from high school. After high school, she graduated from Mitchell LPN School. After graduating from Mitchell LPN School, she worked at the hospital in Yankton. Later, she went on to work at the Yankton Medical Clinic. She married Bill Schramm on August 14, 1961, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. Marlene stayed at home until all four children were in school, and then went back to work at the Clinic. She retired in 2004, and they moved to Yankton to live out their golden years.

Marlene loved to garden and made a great pot roast with potatoes and vegetables. She enjoyed baking pies, kolaches, and cookies. There wasn’t an evening meal without a delicious dessert to follow. Her favorite was always ice cream. She enjoyed many years playing Bridge with her friends. She also was active in volunteering at the VFW. Marlene was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton, South Dakota.

Marlene is survived by her four children: Rhonda (Darrell) Schenkel of Sioux Falls; Jim (Stacy) Schramm of Yankton; Lisa (Scott) Sorenson of Sioux Falls; Julie (Larry) Larsen of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Marlene is preceded in death by her husband Bill Schramm, her parents James and Carrie Krcil; one brother: James Krcil Jr., and two sisters: Delores Krcil and Joyce (Krcil) Carda.
