November 30, 1926 — January 30, 2017

Mary Ann Barnes, age 90 of Yankton passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Regynski officiating. A lunch will be served immediately following the Mass followed by burial at 1:45 PM in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 PM, Monday, February 6, 2017 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7:00 PM Scripture service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences may be sent at www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com. Mary Ann was born in Fordyce, Nebraska, to Anne (Steffen) and Frank Buschelman on January 17, 1927. She attended Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington, Nebraska, and graduated in 1945. She attended Mount Marty College and worked at the Cedar County Court House in Hartington before her marriage to Orie Barnes in 1951. During their marriage, she worked as an office manager at their businesses, Barnes Hay & Feed in Gayville and Feed Bin in Yankton. Her primary and most fulfilling career, however, was raising their six children. She enjoyed playing all types of card and board games, golfing, traveling, and spending winters with her many friends in Mesa, Arizona. She is remembered for her quick wit and her loving and welcoming nature to all. Mary Ann is survived by four daughters: Linda Barnes, Ann Burns and husband Dave, Jane Barnes, and Beth Rabine and husband Jim Dongog; one son, Bruce Orie Barnes and wife Susan; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Orie; son, Harry (Trapper) Barnes; her parents; her four sisters: Viola Schulte, Lucille Aspen, Bernice Buschelman, and Annette Fillian, and her three brothers: Harold Buschelman, Siegfried Buschelman, and Jerome Buschelman. Memorial donations may be made to the Avera Sister James Care Center, 2111 West 11th Street, Yankton, SD 57078. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Avera Sister James Care Center for their compassionate and loving care of Mary Ann during her stay.
