Michael S. Dangel

May 1, 2024 — May 21, 2024

Michael (Mike) Scott Dangel was born on May 1, 1954, to Donald and Dorothy (Novak) Dangel. The day he was born it snowed, which Dorothy reminded him of every year on his birthday. He attended Pleasant Hill country school and then attended Scotland High School where he graduated Class of 1972. On April 3, 1981, Mike was united in marriage to Julia Ann (Goeken) in Ft. Worth, Texas. To this union, there were three sons, Jonathan, Matthew, and James Dangel.

Following high school, he worked at various welding positions in the area until he returned to farming, with his dad, on the family farm. Mike was self-educated, could think out a problem and how to fix it, especially when it involved welding. He enjoyed trips to the Black Hills of South Dakota and being the tour guide to family and friends.

He was proud that he was able to check an item off of his bucket list by going to Moab and Hurricane Utah last summer, including Arches and Zion National Parks. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and being able to be still and quiet.

He passed away at home, as he had wished, on May 21, 2024, at 9:30 PM. He had several health issues of which he worked hard to recover from, including a stroke in 2022. Most recently, which ended his life, he developed acute Leukemia.

He is survived, remembered, and loved by his wife Julie of 43 years, his three sons Jonathan of Pierre SD, Matthew (Kayla) of Scotland SD, and James (Amy) of Scotland SD. Also, his grandchildren, the joys of his life, Eleanor, Woodrow, Dorothy, Evelyn, and Augustus.  His sister Cheri Rames of Sioux Falls SD, and brother Brian (Robin) of Colton SD, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Dorothy, and his sister Vicki (Hyde).

He has requested no funeral, but at a later date to have a celebration of life in his “man cave/shop.” In Lieu of flowers or other arrangements, please consider submitting a donation to the Scotland Youth Center in memory of him.
