Minnie Ann Schenkel

December 20, 1935 — April 7, 2017

Minnie Ann Schenkel, age 81 of Yankton, SD passed away early Friday, April 7, 2017 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, April 10, 2017 at Martinus Lutheran Church, Utica, SD with Rev. Dean Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories, Yankton, SD with a light lunch to follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Yankton, SD. Visitations will be 1 to 4 PM, Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Martinus Lutheran Church, Utica, SD with a Scripture service at 2:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Minnie was born December 20, 1935 to Roy and Edna (Vie) Carter of Hansboro, ND. Minnie graduated from Yankton High School and attended Mount Marty College. Minnie was united in marriage to Vernon Schenkel on April 10, 1955, at Martinus Lutheran Church. Minnie and Vernon farmed and lived in the Yankton area where they raised their five children.

Prior to retirement, Minnie worked at Alumax in Yankton for several years. Minnie always had her faith as the center of her life and was very involved in church activities. Minnie was a member of Sweet Adelines for many years where she was able to share her great singing talent. Minnie was always ready for a good card game and she met with the card club in Lesterville to share great conversation and time together with friends. The family was often spoiled by her baking skills and she was known for her Cinnamon Twists among the grandchildren and a Filling Cake that was often the treat for many birthdays and holiday celebrations. Minnie was a classy lady who was loved by many. Minnie had many hobbies throughout her life that she often shared with others such as quilting, sewing, crocheting and puzzles.

Minnie is survived by her children: Chris Dobson of Minnetonka, MN, Andy (Linda) Schenkel of Albuquerque, NM, Jim (Donna) Schenkel of Brandon, SD, Cathy (John) Wieseler of Yankton, SD, Bill (Michelle Engelmeyer) Schenkel of Sioux Falls, SD. Minnie enjoyed life with her grandchildren: Melissa Boetger, Carolyn Fuerst, Amy Harvey, Lee Schenkel, Jerod Sparks, Jenny Giannelli, Kevin Schramm, Amber Schramm, Caitlin Schenkel, Dillon Schenkel, Adam Schramm, Allie Schenkel and 9 great-grandchildren. Minnie is survived by her siblings: Doug (Angela) Carter of Las Vegas, NV, Mike (Bernie) Carter of Lino Lakes, MN, Beryl Bowlin of Wheatridge, CO, Ethel (Gary) Jorgensen of Albuquerque, NM and Marilyn (Dave) Tice of Denver, CO. She is also survived by Vernon’s siblings: Alan (Lillian) Schenkel of Utica, SD, Darlene (Filmore) Mutschelknaus of Lesterville, SD and Wilma (Warren) Luke of Hartford.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, her parents, sister, Kay, brothers, Alan, Lynn and John.¬
