Rebecca L. Cap

Rebecca was born to Leonard and Lucy (Haberer) Cap on February 3, 1969, at Sacred Heart Hospital and was raised on a farm just outside Yankton. She participated enthusiastically in 4-H. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Church and attended school in Yankton, graduating in 1988.

Rebecca worked at Stuelpnagel's, Prairie Homes Assisted Living and as a home health worker. Sidelined by a severe gallbladder attack, she spent some time at Wakonda and McKennon in Sioux Falls.

Rheumatoid arthritis put her in a wheelchair, but she continued to live independently and volunteered at Majestic Bluffs and the Avera Pavilion. She took great pride in selling roses for Avera during their "Roses Just Because" campaign every year until she went to the Sanford Vermillion Care Center. She spent the last year and a half in Vermillion, selling (and giving away as presents) her embroidery, helping with bingo, enjoying art, tutoring for the Yankton Area Literacy Council, and helping her older friends.

Rebecca’s constant companion, her cat Toby, was tragically lost when he made a get¬away from the home where he was boarded in Vermillion.

In early 2015 she had sudden kidney failure and began the trek back to Yankton for dialysis three times a week. It was after a procedure to put a new port for dialysis on May 23 that she suffered several strokes.

Rebecca is survived by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Dwayne and Julie Cap, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, plus a multitude of friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lawrence and Marcella Haberer and William A. and Ludmilla Cap.
