Robert 'Bob' Gorsett

Robert “Bob” Gorsett, age 55 of Wilmington, NC passed away May 24, 2026 at his home in Wilmington, NC. Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, August 3, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Jeff Otterman officiating. Visitations will be 5 to 7 PM, Sunday, August 2, 2026 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD with a Scripture service at 7:00 PM. Robert “Bob” A. Gorsett, age 55, of Wilmington, North Caroline, passed away in Wilmington on Sunday, May 24, 2026. He was born on July 24, 1970, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Eugene and Joanne (Sjodin) Gorsett. Bob was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On October 20, 2001, he was united in marriage to Audra Carwile in Newport, Rhode Island, and they were blessed with twin daughters, Allie and Ashley.

Bob attended school in York, Nebraska, through eighth grade, where he developed a lifelong love of athletics. He later attended high school in Yankton, South Dakota, and was a standout basketball player. He attended Sioux Falls College from 1988 to 1991, where he played basketball, and graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1993 with a degree in Business Management. Bob worked as a Commodity Specialist at Gateway Computers in Sioux City and later served in sales director and product manager roles that took him to Appleton, Wisconsin; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Worcester, Massachusetts. While living in Wilmington, he also owned The Casual Edge and Premier IT and was an independent contractor for LogoDogs.

Though not a farmer by trade, he was one at heart, and some of his happiest memories were made with his grandparents on the family farm near Wakonda, South Dakota. He also treasured summers in York helping on the Driewer farm, walking beans and riding ATVs through the mud. Bob fondly recalled picnic lunches with bologna sandwiches on family vacations and credited his maintenance work at Vishay in Yankton for teaching him how to “fix anything.”

Bob was known for his big personality, warm smile, and the energy he brought into every room. He loved basketball, golf, Nebraska sports, cats, and playing pranks on family and friends. He worked hard, took deep pride in his family, in providing for his family and in his daughters’ academic achievements, and he was always generous and ready to help others.

He is survived by his wife, Audra, and daughters, Allie and Ashley, of Wilmington, North Carolina. He is also survived by his father, Eugene (Dian) Gorsett of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his sister, Brenda Gorsett of Yankton, South Dakota; his nephew and niece, Benjamin and Danielle Fosdick of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; as well as uncles, aunts, cousins, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joanne Gorsett; grandparents, Martin and Alice Gorsett and Raymond and Irene Sjodin; aunt, Marilyn Gorsett; uncle, Gordon Sjodin and cousin, John Sjodin.

Burial services in Wilmington, NC are pending. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton, South Dakota, with the Reverend Jeff Otterman officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials can be given to a charity of your choice in his honor.
