Sharon Faye Watkins, age 50, of Volin, SD passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 from injuries due to a motorcycle accident. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, SD, with Michael Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Trondhjem Lutheran Cemetery, Volin, SD. Visitations will be 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Thursday, with the family present. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Sharon Faye Watkins was born in Des Moines, IA on August 26, 1963. She was the daughter of Frank and Betty (Albertha) Powell.
She graduated from Armour SD High School in 1982. Following graduation, she attended classes in Mitchell, SD. Over the years, she worked at various places in Iowa and South Dakota and worked for several years at John Morrell in Sioux City, IA. For the last 11 years, she worked as a Federal Meat inspector at John Morrell in Sioux Falls, SD. She was a member of Southeast Abate of Vermillion, SD, and Past Meat Cutters Union in Sioux City, IA. She enjoyed raising greyhound dogs, gardening, animals, camping, reading, going on motorcycle rides and going to motorcycle rallies. She also liked spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by her four children: Joanie (husband, Eric) Speck of Dakota City, NE, Denise Van Voorst (significant other, Craig White) of La Mars, IA, Shawn Stevens of Illinois, Marcus Stevens of Yankton, SD; mother, Betty (Albertha) Powell of Corsica, SD; brother, Marvin (Lois) Powell of Wyoming; nieces and nephews and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her longtime friend and the love of her life, Kevin Brunke of Violin, SD.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Powell.
