Virginia was born January 9, 1927 to Niels and Ida Nielsen (Mortenson) in Yankton. She was very proud of her Scandinavian heritage and being a first generation American.
She grew up in Yankton, graduated from Yankton High School, and attended Yankton College for three years before marrying Donald Couch on July 17, 1949.
She was a homemaker and a partner with Donald in operating their businesses, Transport Service, Inc. and Truck Trailer Sales and Service, Inc. until they both retired in 1986. After Donald’s death in 2008, Virginia relocated to Oklahoma City to be near family. She loved to golf and play cards with family and friends, and she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all.
Virginia was a member of the PEO Chapter K, Hillcrest Country Club and a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She was an original season ticket holder of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
She is survived by her two sons, Jeff (Janice) Couch of Fort Collins, Colorado, Jim (Cathy) Couch of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: Jacob Couch of Silver Spring, Maryland, Joseph Couch of Lafayette, Louisiana, Kylene Solomon (Joe) of Denver, Colorado, Kira Couch of Austin, Texas and Mackensie Dannels (Rob) of Windsor, Colorado and two great-grandchildren, Diem Solomon and Olivia Dannels.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty-nine years, Donald; grandson, Thomas Couch and four brothers: Roy Nielsen, Howard (Hod) Nielsen, Niels Robert (Bob) Nielsen, and Willard (Babe) Nielsen.
